Traumatizing Lena

We were all getting stir crazy and decided to get out of the house. Plus, Lena had been saying: "Go go, park." all day. So we went to the park as a family. We started out having a great time. Lena went down the spiral slide all by herself, which she normally doesn't do. The she wanted to play on the swings. She doesn't want to be in the baby swings, she wants a big kid swing and she does pretty good. You get her going and she says "seat, seat" and points to the swing next to her. She wants you to swing too. So we were all swing except for Tage, he doesn't hold on at all. And it was Brett's turn to get her going again. He was teasing her a little bit by grabbing her and releasing her. She was laughing up a storm. Then he grabbed her legs but accidentally held on a little too long and pulled her out of the swing. Well, Lena completely let go of the swing. Brett still had her by the ankles and was able to keep her from hitting her head on the ground, but she was seriously freaked out. So we calmed her down a little and asked her if she wanted to swing again. This time she pointed to the baby swings which look kinda like a basket. So we put her in there and began pushing her and she started crying. So much for the swings.

So to get her mind off the swings we tried to get her interested in other things at the play ground. They had a slide that had 3 slides side by side. So I had Brett wait at the bottom to catch her and I would slide down with her. Well, this slide has some of those bumps on them. Also, the slide turned out to be really slick. So I sent Lena down the slide and she went shooting down like a rocket and caught air on all the bumps. She hit the bottom freaked out and crying. Then I went down and the slide hurt me too. No wonder she was freaking. So anything we tried to get her to do after that just made her cry, so we went home. So without meaning to we totally traumatized our daughter today. Will she ever let us take her to a park again?

I wouldn't try again for 10 or 12 years. :)
